At Urban Initiatives I led a team of transport consultants, planners and property advisors, in preparing a mastreplan for approximately 3000 homes and a new mixed use town centre in a major growth area in the Thames Gateway for the Thurrock Development Corporation.

We developed four alternative layouts in response to an incredibly constrained site that included flooding, contamination and HSE restrictions as well as a vociferous community.

The project involve running a comprehensive public and stakeholder consultation programme including three week long public exhibitions, a number of stakeholder surgeries and presentations to special interest groups.

I managed a team to produce an innovative set of Design Codes for the 60Ha site. This guided the procurement of developers, allowing them maximum flexibility, while ensuring the key principles of the masterplan were adhered to.

Our work on the Development Framework was instrumental in securing £600 million in investment from DCLG. The Design Codes we created formed a key element in the selection of a preferred masterplan developer for the scheme.
